What about the weather, are you still open when it rains ?
Be sure to check the web site or call (540)439-4806 if you are not sure about the weather.  It's not very fun down on the farm when it's raining so be sure to check before you come out

How big of group can you handle ?
So far we have not had any group too big and some of the answer lies with the amount of time you have to be with us.  We divide large groups into smaller tour groups of about 40 to 60 guest.  It takes 30 minutes for the hayride and then we have lots of the activities that we can provide.  The best answer is give us a call and let us work something out for your group.  We are always willing to try.  We have had company picnics, church groups, Boy & Girl Scout troops, Birthday parties, Mom's clubs, school groups and even tour busses.

How small of a group will you take?
We love having folks out to the farm no matter how many are in a group, but we do need help to show you around, so we ask that you have at least 15 paying guest in your group for a special appointment.  But don't hesitate to contact us about a date and time.  Many times we can combine groups of less than 15  together and everything works out fine.  Always remember, we do the full tours and have lots of activities on the Special events days so be sure to check out our Cowlendar of Events.

Will we get to milk a cow ?
This is the toughest question we are asked.  We would love to provide this experience, but we just have not found a way to deliver this opportunity and make it 100% safe for you, our guest and the cow.  First you have got to have a very, very understanding cow and while we have many cows that don't mind being hand milked, they just don't have the patience to stand for a lot of "tugging".  We do try to have to have a milking demonstration scheduled during our special event days or with tour request, but sometimes we just don't have the right cow at the right time.

Will we get to see the cows milked ?
Cows are amazing creatures and very much creatures of habit.  They like things relaxed and the same routine every day with the same people.  Therefore to maintain a calm and relaxed atmosphere in the milking parlor (and for bio-security reasons) we cannot take guest into the parlor while the cows are being milked.  But again, we do try to have to have a milking demonstration scheduled during our special event days or with tour request, but sometimes we just don't have the right cow at the right time.  We hope that as we have more visitors that maybe, someday in the future we will be able remodel the milking parlor and fix an observation area.

So what will we see on the tour ?
We are very proud of the tour.  Many folks come for our other activities but leave talking about our tour.  You will get a relaxing hayride tour with a tour guide telling you about our modern dairy farming operation.  You will see the baby calves, heifers and cows in there "home" environment and learn about their daily routine.  We tell you about their eating habits, life cycle and so much more.  We share how we are using modern computer technology to help us better manage and care for our herd of 300 cows and 350 future herd mates and we don't mind answering any questions about "life on the farm". You will learn so much and have fun learning.

Ok, about these other activities,  how long should we plan our visit ?
We recommend you plan to be with us at least two to three hours.  Not only do you get the hayride tour, but during corn maze season you will want to "get lost" and then there are the pedal karts, corn box, playground, small animals to see, pick a pumpkin, cow milking demo, or just sit under our tents and enjoy the outdoors. Plus, we have a small gift shop with "Got Milk" items, Apple & Cherry Cider, our very own "Al-Mara Farm Cheddar and Colby Cheese" and we are adding more everyday. OH, Yea ! I almost forgot, we can dip you a delicious scoop of ice cream or fix you a snack.

Do you have anything like corn, tomatoes or strawberries ?
Check back after spring planting of 2009.  I’ve been twisting Jeff’s arm to grow some sweet corn and we have a neighbor that has been going tomatoes on some of our land.  He has been sharing when the harvest is good, so just maybe we will have something else before our all pumpkins. We have all kinds of pumpkins.  Jeff usually will plant about 8 acres of pumpkins that should grow into all different sizes.  So keep your fingers crossed for a great growing season.  Also for 2010 we will have pick your own Blueberries and Blackberries.
